For 25 years, I watched him fight against skin cancer of the face. Year after year I watched him go to hospital to have a bit cut out each time. As the years went by, more and more of his face was cut away. When he returned with what is left of his face, he tried to smile. He never complained or He was a skillful mechanic and carpenter. In fact, he was one of the best. I suspect he said this to himself “My work will be my face and my life” I doubt if he often look in the mirror at that damaged face. As the years went by, he became weaker and weaker. His hands did not move with confidence and speed as they had done before. He was unable to do many things. The help he got was not able to catch his vision. They thought he was strange to try so hard to complete each and every detail. So he worked alone. He did not complain at the others. He would just appear the next morning by himself with no explanation of the absence of his helper.
When you met him on the streets, he would always give a cheery greeting. As time went on, it was more and more difficult to him to speak. Often he would move his walking stick. This stick, too, was a thing of beauty, carved out by his skillful hands. In all his time, he never complained about the pain. You would think there was nothing the matter if you did not see his face.
A few days before he died, I went to see him again. What was left of his face was a mass of scars and there was really nothing to cut away. You could tell he was in great pain and had many sleepless nights. But still there were no words of complaints.
I shall never forget his last words. Ever afterwards they have made me ashamed whenever I complain. The words are “God has been good to me. I had never had any reason to complain.”

Eco City Farms are becoming more popular in cities and towns around the United States.
四川省遂宁市射洪县 四川省遂宁市射洪县2014高5月高考冲刺卷定稿附答案
Eco City Farms in Edmonston, Maryland, is located near shopping centers, car repair shops and homes. The neighborhood is a working-class community. People do not have very much money, and they have limited access to fresh food in markets.
Over the past two years, the farm has attracted volunteers from the community like Marcy Clark. She schools her four children at home. On a recent day she brought them to Eco City Farms for a lesson. Her son Alston Clark thinks his experience is very valuable. “I like coming out here,” he says, “You know, you connect with the earth, where your food comes from. You appreciate the food a little bit more.”
Margaret Morgan started Eco City Farms. She thinks of it as a place where people can learn to live healthier lives. “Growing food in a community brings people together.” she continues, “Every piece of what we do here is a demonstration to show people everything about how to have an eco-friendly community. " she says. From the Eco City Farms people come to know that they are not only growing food and raising chickens and bees, but improving the soil with compost(肥料) made from food waste.
Eco City Farms is an experimental operation. The farm gets its power not from the local electricity networks, but from the sun with solar panels. In winter, the green houses use a geothermal(地热) system.

The Powermat Wireless Charging System for iPhone 1XA claims to wirelessly charge your iPhone in three, easy steps—plug in the Powermat, place the receiver case onto your iPhone, set your iPhone on the mat and let it charge away.
In theory,it’s a good idea.No more looking around for your Apple charger, just drop your iPhone on the mat and walk away while it juices up your battery.
But to be perfectly honest, there’s no difference,or any more convenience,to just using a plug socket charger.
Firstly,it claims to be wireless, but you still have to find a socket to plug Powermat into. And,as it turns out,you can’t just “drop” your iPhone on to it to charge. You have to put your device(装备) into the receiver case, which connects the Powermat with your phone so it can charge.
But I had two problems with that.Firstly, the receiver is a bit stiff and took a few seconds to pull apart and then put on my iPhone. And this would be a process you would have to go through every time you want to use the Powermat because the receiver is too big and heavy to permanently keep on your phone. And if you have a case for your iPhone, this has to be removed first as it won’t fit inside the receiver.
Secondly,by the time you’ve remembered where you plugged the Powermat in,seized ,it probably would have taken less time to connect your device to the Apple plug it came with.So where’s the convenience? should also consider bringing out a battery-powered mat too,for extra convenience and to make it mobile and properly wireless.
43.What is the main idea of the text?
A.Powermat is a great idea in theory and practice.
B.People meet problems in making use of Powermat.

C.Powermat is quite suitable for people working at home.

After students come home from a tiring day at school, they tend to worry a lot about their homework.
Whether students are working on English or chemistry homework, they are simply working on the assignment in order to get it done, attempting to memorize the concepts for the time being and do not absorb any of the information afterward. Students are wasting their time on insignificant assignments rather than effectively using that time to achieve other accomplishments. According to www.dailymail.com, many parents are concerned that homework is being assigned rather than being used to integrate (整合) what teachers are covering in the classroom. In their eyes, if less homework is assigned, students would have much less stress and could focus more on their passions and hobbies.
Homework gets in the way of participating in community service events as well as opportunities for getting a job or being a part of an extra-curricular activity. These responsibilities are important for teenagers to take on because they prepare the teenagers for the "real world." Without the proper exposure to work that is not school related, students will find themselves lost after they graduate. If homework were no longer given, students would have a lot more time to mature in other fields rather than being educated only on academics.
In spite of the fact that teachers want students to do better on tests and absorb the material that they are teaching, homework is not accomplishing its purpose. Because school is becoming increasingly more competitive and challenging, homework is becoming a setback rather than extra practice. Its removal would benefit the well being of teenagers as well as encourage them to get out in the "real world" and discover themselves instead of staring at a pile of assignments.
47. Students are wasting their time on insignificant homework because
A. they are working on it carelessly and hurriedly
B. they attempt to get only part of the information memorized
C. they spend too much time doing it without understanding
D. they fail to take in the information after finishing it
48. Many parents think that teachers should ______.
A. help students integrate the homework
B. simplify what they teach in the classroom
C. reduce homework to develop students' own interests
D. assign more effective homework for students

Safety on the highway is not totally out of hand. Here are four ways you can protect
yourselves when you travel.
You are safer in a large car. People in small cars are injured more often and more severely than people traveling in large cars. Factories of small cars are strengthening their products’ safety,
四川省遂宁市射洪县 四川省遂宁市射洪县2014高5月高考冲刺卷定稿附答案
which helps. But the mix of large cars and small cars on the road is the main reason for the safety problem.
Being thrown into glass and metal parts of a car —or being thrown from the car—can really damage you. That’s why safety belts should be worn. The safety belt’s main purpose is to pull you back. If your car has a sudden crash with another vehicle or object or if it rolls over, a belt can reduce the chance of fatal injury by 45% and the chance of serious injury by 50%.
Air bags are important. More than half of all new cars sold have air bags. Air bags provide protection in frontal crashes — the type of crash that kills the most drivers, though they are also
wearing safety belts.
Most people demand air bags in the cars they buy. But the protection provided by air bags is limited in side or rear crashes. Effective as they are, they can’t take the place of safety belts. Drunk driving crashes are less likely to happen if you don’t drink. Drunk driving is the most serious problem. Many people have realized that drunk driving can lead to death and injury, prison time and other results. There are measures to strengthen penalties (处罚) for drunk driving. 66. 第三节 书面表达(共35分) It is good that the school have opened elective courses for the students, whose interest will be satisfied and knowledge expanded. It is an effective means to help the students remember better what they have learned in class.
Organizations and clubs offer a good stage where the students’ organizational skills and social skills will be developed. It is a suitable means for the students to adapt themselves to society. The result of this kind is improving the students’ qualities rather than making them get higher marks in their subjects only.
In my opinion ,we should remember to choose the optional courses according to one’s interest and never just to follow others. The same goes for joining organizations or clubs. Only when you feel energetic and have more free time can you attend the after-class activities. Otherwise, you’ll end up being left behind in your studies.
